PTSC says woman recovering after incident in Palmyra

The Pub­lic Trans­port Ser­vice Cor­po­ra­tion has launched an in­ter­nal in­ves­ti­ga­tion fol­low­ing an in­ci­dent in which a woman was in­jured af­ter falling from one of its bus­es along the San Fer­nan­do to Guayagua­yare route, in the vicin­i­ty of Palmyra.

Video footage of the in­ci­dent, which has been cir­cu­lat­ing on so­cial me­dia, shows the woman falling from the bus as it moved off. The footage shows the ve­hi­cle run­ning over her hand be­fore com­ing to a stop.

In a state­ment, the cor­po­ra­tion said it ini­ti­at­ed an in­ter­nal re­view in keep­ing with its stan­dard op­er­at­ing pro­ce­dures and con­firmed that the mat­ter is al­so un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion by the Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice. PTSC said it is co­op­er­at­ing ful­ly with the po­lice probe.

The in­jured pas­sen­ger was tak­en to the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal, where she re­mains un­der med­ical care.

PTSC sought to cor­rect re­ports cir­cu­lat­ing on­line and in some me­dia out­lets that the woman’s arm had been sev­ered dur­ing the in­ci­dent. The cor­po­ra­tion said this was not the case and con­firmed that the pas­sen­ger is in sta­ble con­di­tion, with her in­juries be­ing treat­ed by med­ical pro­fes­sion­als.

The cor­po­ra­tion said its rep­re­sen­ta­tives have vis­it­ed the hos­pi­tal and re­main in con­tact with the woman’s fam­i­ly.

PTSC said its pri­ma­ry con­cern re­mains the health and well-be­ing of the in­jured pas­sen­ger and that it will con­tin­ue to pro­vide sup­port as ap­pro­pri­ate while in­ves­ti­ga­tions con­tin­ue.
