Port of Spain City Day parade set for tomorrow

The Port of Spain City Cor­po­ra­tion will host its an­nu­al City Day Pa­rade to­mor­row as part of cel­e­bra­tions mark­ing 112 years of ser­vice, uni­ty and ex­cel­lence.

In a so­cial me­dia post, the cor­po­ra­tion in­vit­ed mem­bers of the pub­lic to view the pro­ces­sion, which is sched­uled to be­gin at 10.30 am.

The event will start with an of­fi­cial in­spec­tion at the Queen’s Park Sa­van­nah in front of the Grand Stand. Af­ter a brief hy­dra­tion break, par­tic­i­pants will pro­ceed along a route through the cap­i­tal.

A ma­jor fea­ture of the pa­rade will be the May­oral Salute op­po­site City Hall on Knox Street, where the May­or will re­ceive the of­fi­cial salute and par­tic­i­pat­ing de­tach­ments will per­form an “Eyes Right”.

The pro­ces­sion will be­gin at the Queen’s Park Sa­van­nah be­fore head­ing south along Fred­er­ick Street. Par­tic­i­pants will then turn west on­to Duke Street, south on­to Pem­broke Street and east on­to Knox Street for the May­oral Salute.

Fol­low­ing the salute, the pa­rade will con­tin­ue south along Fred­er­ick Street be­fore turn­ing east on­to Prince Street and south on­to Hen­ry Street. The route will then pro­ceed west along In­de­pen­dence Square North, north on­to Fred­er­ick Street and con­clude on Hart Street at Wood­ford Square, where the of­fi­cial dis­missal will take place.

The cor­po­ra­tion al­so ad­vised mo­torists that rolling road clo­sures and traf­fic re­stric­tions will be im­ple­ment­ed along the pa­rade route for the du­ra­tion of the event.

Dri­vers have been urged to plan their trav­el ac­cord­ing­ly and fol­low di­rec­tions from traf­fic law en­force­ment of­fi­cers.
