Police seize $8.6M in cannabis during Beetham raid

Po­lice seized more than $8.6 mil­lion worth of cannabis dur­ing an an­ti-crime op­er­a­tion in the Port of Spain Di­vi­sion on Wednes­day 14 Jan­u­ary 2026.

Of­fi­cers at­tached to the Spe­cial In­ves­ti­ga­tions Unit (SIU) went to a res­i­dence at 11th Street, Beetham Gar­dens, where they con­duct­ed a search un­der the Emer­gency Pow­ers Reg­u­la­tions, 2025. The search took place in the pres­ence of the oc­cu­pants.

Dur­ing the search of a bed­room, of­fi­cers found 111 mul­ti-coloured rec­tan­gu­lar pack­ages con­tain­ing cannabis. The drugs weighed a com­bined 78.52 kilo­grammes and have an es­ti­mat­ed street val­ue of $8,617,334.44.

Po­lice ar­rest­ed two men, ages 45 and 32 years, along with a woman, in con­nec­tion with the find. Of­fi­cers took them to the SIU main of­fice.
