Police probe death of homeless man at St Joseph school

Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing a sus­pect­ed homi­cide af­ter a 70-year-old home­less man was found dead at the aban­doned St Joseph Sec­ondary School on Sun­day.

Of­fi­cers re­port­ed that around 11.45 am Vish­nu Ma­haraj was dis­cov­ered in­side the build­ing af­ter an­oth­er so­cial­ly dis­placed man said he had been told Ma­haraj had fall­en.

Po­lice said the 39-year-old man went to the St Joseph Po­lice Sta­tion and in­formed of­fi­cers about the re­port.

Of­fi­cers lat­er vis­it­ed the aban­doned school and found Ma­haraj on the up­per floor of one of the build­ings with blood com­ing from his head.

His body was or­dered re­moved to the Foren­sic Sci­ence Cen­tre for an au­top­sy to de­ter­mine the cause of death be­fore the case is for­mal­ly clas­si­fied.
