Police officers, hunter rescue lost hikers

Two po­lice of­fi­cers and a hunter are be­ing hailed for res­cu­ing two lost hik­ers in the North­ern Range on Sun­day evening.

Po­lice said PC Rochford and PC Kissoon were on pa­trol in Tu­na­puna when they re­ceived a re­port that two hik­ers were lost some­where be­tween Cau­ra and Lopinot.

Of­fi­cers were told that one of the hik­ers had con­tact­ed po­lice us­ing his cell­phone.

Rochford and Kissoon then drove to La Pas­to­ra Vil­lage, Lopinot, where they met a vil­lager who led them through the hill­side for­est.

Ac­cord­ing to the po­lice re­port, the of­fi­cers searched the area for four hours be­fore find­ing the hik­ers five kilo­me­tres north­west of Lopinot Vil­lage.

The of­fi­cers and the hunter then led the men back to La Pas­to­ra Vil­lage, where they were found to be in good health.
