Police officer killed crossing highway near Maloney

A po­lice of­fi­cer has died af­ter he was struck by a ve­hi­cle while at­tempt­ing to cross the Churchill Roo­sevelt High­way near the Mal­oney traf­fic lights this morn­ing.

Po­lice said the vic­tim has been iden­ti­fied as Po­lice Con­sta­ble Boochan, who was last as­signed to the Pi­ar­co Po­lice Sta­tion and was re­port­ed­ly on va­ca­tion leave.

The in­ci­dent oc­curred around 6:30 am on Thurs­day when Boochan was cross­ing in the vicin­i­ty of the Mal­oney traf­fic lights and came in­to con­tact with a Sub­aru dri­ven by a fel­low of­fi­cer at­tached to the High­way Pa­trol unit.

He died at the scene.

A Dis­trict Med­ical Of­fi­cer vis­it­ed and or­dered the re­moval of the body to the Er­ic Williams Med­ical Sci­ences Com­plex in Mt Hope for a post-mortem.

Mal­oney po­lice are con­tin­u­ing en­quiries.

The ac­ci­dent caused a ma­jor traf­fic pile-up along the high­way.
