A police exercise in the Port of Spain Division on Tuesday resulted in the arrest of three men and the seizure of a high-powered firearm and ammunition.
Between 1 pm and 8 pm, officers carried out targeted searches in areas including Beetham Gardens, Troumacaque, Snake Valley, Belmont, Gonzales and Eastern Quarry.
Police said the exercise focused on intelligence linked to suspects in a recent homicide at Joesam Hill, Laventille. Extensive searches were conducted in Snake Valley, but no one matching the descriptions was found.
Three men, were arrested. One was held for common assault, while two were detained in connection with shooting enquiries.
During the operation, officers also responded to a robbery report at the Missionaries of Charity along Church Street, Laventille, but no suspects were found.
Police said they later recovered a semi-automatic high-powered rifle and 28 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition in the Joesam Hill, Snake Valley area.
In total, 15 premises were searched. Police said enquiries into the firearm recovery are ongoing.
