Police exercise nets three, rifle and ammunition seized

A po­lice ex­er­cise in the Port of Spain Di­vi­sion on Tues­day re­sult­ed in the ar­rest of three men and the seizure of a high-pow­ered firearm and am­mu­ni­tion.

Be­tween 1 pm and 8 pm, of­fi­cers car­ried out tar­get­ed search­es in ar­eas in­clud­ing Beetham Gar­dens, Troumacaque, Snake Val­ley, Bel­mont, Gon­za­les and East­ern Quar­ry.

Po­lice said the ex­er­cise fo­cused on in­tel­li­gence linked to sus­pects in a re­cent homi­cide at Joe­sam Hill, Laven­tille. Ex­ten­sive search­es were con­duct­ed in Snake Val­ley, but no one match­ing the de­scrip­tions was found.

Three men, were ar­rest­ed. One was held for com­mon as­sault, while two were de­tained in con­nec­tion with shoot­ing en­quiries.

Dur­ing the op­er­a­tion, of­fi­cers al­so re­spond­ed to a rob­bery re­port at the Mis­sion­ar­ies of Char­i­ty along Church Street, Laven­tille, but no sus­pects were found.

Po­lice said they lat­er re­cov­ered a se­mi-au­to­mat­ic high-pow­ered ri­fle and 28 rounds of 5.56mm am­mu­ni­tion in the Joe­sam Hill, Snake Val­ley area.

In to­tal, 15 premis­es were searched. Po­lice said en­quiries in­to the firearm re­cov­ery are on­go­ing.
