Police seized and destroyed more than $7 million worth of cannabis during a series of anti-crime operations conducted across several divisions on Wednesday and Thursday.
Two suspects were arrested and a firearm and quantities of cannabis were seized during the exercises, which were carried out by multiple specialised units.
In one operation around midday on Thursday (January 8), officers of the Couva Police Station received intelligence that led them to Martha Street.
During a comprehensive search in the vicinity of a chain link fence, officers discovered one revolver loaded with ammunition.
In the Northern and North-Eastern Divisions, Task Force officers conducted an intelligence led exercise at an abandoned structure at Boys Lane, DAbadie.
A search of the location resulted in the discovery of a black plastic bag containing 1.8 kilogrammes of cannabis. That operation was coordinated by Acting Senior Superintendent Maynard Wilson, Superintendent Mc Kenzie and Assistant Superintendent Ablacksingh.
Meanwhile, officers of the Special Response Unit carried out an exercise in the Cap de Ville district between 5 pm and 8 pm on Wednesday (January 7).
A vehicle with two male occupants was intercepted and searched, leading to the discovery of 26.5 kilogrammes of cannabis with an estimated street value of one million dollars. Both suspects were arrested. The exercise was spearheaded by Assistant Commissioner Hazel.
And in the Eastern Division, a large-scale cannabis eradication exercise was conducted in the Biche district.
Officers trekked several kilometres into a forested and swampy area where they discovered two grow houses containing about 6,000 fully grown cannabis plants valued at $6 million.
The plants and equipment were destroyed.
