Officers of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service seized cannabis valued at over TT $6.3 million during an intelligence-led operation in Gasparillo on Saturday.

Police said officers received information that a shipment of narcotics had been imported from South America and was being stored at a location in Gasparillo. Further intelligence identified two premises within the Reform Phase 4 Residential Development.

Surveillance was conducted at both locations and coordination was established with the Southern Division Task Force. Officers later executed search warrants at two apartment buildings within the development.

During the exercise, officers seized 109 packets of cannabis weighing 57.42 kilogrammes with an estimated street value of TT $6,316,200. Police also seized TT $119,900 and USD $146.

The narcotics and cash were found concealed inside one of the apartments.

No occupants were present at the time of the search.

Police said investigations are continuing and arrests are expected.

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service stated that the exercise forms part of ongoing operations targeting the importation, storage and distribution of illegal narcotics and involved coordination between divisions.
