Officers of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service conducted an anti-crime exercise today, resulting in the seizure of 28 rounds of 9mm ammunition, two firearm components and 160 grams of cannabis.
The exercise, named Operation Steady Guard, was conducted between 12:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. across the Port of Spain and Central Divisions. Areas targeted included the Besson Street Police Station District, Duncan Street, and Oasis Gardens, Chaguanas.
Senior Superintendent Thom, Superintendent Baird, ASP Cadette and Inspector Durga led the operation, which was supervised by Sgts Guerra, Sookhoo and St. Bernard, and assisted by Cpls Harrypersad, Keshwar and Lashley.
During the exercise, officers conducted 22 house searches and 35 field interviews.
The TTPS stated that operations of this nature are part of ongoing efforts to remove illegal firearms, ammunition and narcotics from communities. Officers continue to maintain a strong presence to ensure the safety and security of the public.
The service also encouraged members of the public to provide information that could assist in future operations.
Operation Steady Guard forms part of the national strategy to strengthen law enforcement coordination across divisions and improve community safety.
The police service confirmed that further operations are planned in other districts in the coming weeks to address crime and illegal activities.
