Operation Steady Guard seizes ammunition, firearm

Of­fi­cers of the Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice con­duct­ed an an­ti-crime ex­er­cise to­day, re­sult­ing in the seizure of 28 rounds of 9mm am­mu­ni­tion, two firearm com­po­nents and 160 grams of cannabis.

The ex­er­cise, named Op­er­a­tion Steady Guard, was con­duct­ed be­tween 12:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. across the Port of Spain and Cen­tral Di­vi­sions. Ar­eas tar­get­ed in­clud­ed the Besson Street Po­lice Sta­tion Dis­trict, Dun­can Street, and Oa­sis Gar­dens, Ch­agua­nas.

Se­nior Su­per­in­ten­dent Thom, Su­per­in­ten­dent Baird, ASP Cadette and In­spec­tor Dur­ga led the op­er­a­tion, which was su­per­vised by Sgts Guer­ra, Sookhoo and St. Bernard, and as­sist­ed by Cpls Har­ryper­sad, Kesh­war and Lash­ley.

Dur­ing the ex­er­cise, of­fi­cers con­duct­ed 22 house search­es and 35 field in­ter­views.

The TTPS stat­ed that op­er­a­tions of this na­ture are part of on­go­ing ef­forts to re­move il­le­gal firearms, am­mu­ni­tion and nar­cotics from com­mu­ni­ties. Of­fi­cers con­tin­ue to main­tain a strong pres­ence to en­sure the safe­ty and se­cu­ri­ty of the pub­lic.

The ser­vice al­so en­cour­aged mem­bers of the pub­lic to pro­vide in­for­ma­tion that could as­sist in fu­ture op­er­a­tions.

Op­er­a­tion Steady Guard forms part of the na­tion­al strat­e­gy to strength­en law en­force­ment co­or­di­na­tion across di­vi­sions and im­prove com­mu­ni­ty safe­ty.

The po­lice ser­vice con­firmed that fur­ther op­er­a­tions are planned in oth­er dis­tricts in the com­ing weeks to ad­dress crime and il­le­gal ac­tiv­i­ties.
