A police officer with less than a year of service remains in critical condition at the Mt Hope Hospital after falling from the upper level of the Sangre Grande Police Station.
The officer, a Police Constable, is assigned to the Sangre Grande Traffic Branch.
The police service reported that around 4.30 pm on Friday, the constable, who is still on probation, was at the police women’s dormitory situated on the eastern side of the building when he jumped through a window. The officer fell on top of a police vehicle, shattering its back windscreen in the process.
He suffered severe head and facial injuries.
He was able to walk into the police station, where he sat by the washroom with fellow officers, taking him to the Sangre Grande Hospital where he was treated.
He was then transferred to EWMSC Mt Hope Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.
The TTPS confirmed the incident in a media release issued yesterday.
When Guardian Media contacted the head of the Eastern Division, Snr Supt Paponette, for more details on the incident, he said he was in church.
Investigations are ongoing. - Ralph Banwarie
