Murder toll increases by 3 after separate shootings

The mur­der toll in­creased by three be­tween Tues­day night and yes­ter­day, fol­low­ing shoot­ings in Pe­tit Val­ley, Tu­na­puna and Bon Air, re­spec­tive­ly.

In the first in­ci­dent, around 8.25 pm on Tues­day, one man was killed while a sec­ond man was in­jured fol­low­ing a shoot­ing at the cor­ner of Sime­on Road and Spar­row Dri­ve, Pe­tit Val­ley.

The de­ceased was iden­ti­fied as Jerome Oliv­er, 33, of Spar­row Dri­ve, Pe­tit Val­ley.

Oliv­er was part of a group that had been lim­ing on the road when an un­known sil­ver wag­on drove up to them.

A gun­man wear­ing a hood­ie ex­it­ed the car and opened fire on the group.

The gun­man ran back to his wait­ing car and es­caped as the group re­alised Oliv­er was bleed­ing from mul­ti­ple gun­shot wounds about his body.

Ef­forts were made to re­vive him, but proved un­suc­cess­ful.

Oliv­er was de­clared dead by the Dis­trict Med­ical Of­fi­cer at the scene.

Sev­en 9 mm spent shells were re­cov­ered at the scene.

In the sec­ond shoot­ing, around 11.30 pm yes­ter­day in Tu­na­puna, Kwa­mi Huyjhew, 27, of By-Pass Road, Ari­ma, was pro­nounced dead on ar­rival at the hos­pi­tal.

En­quiries are con­tin­u­ing in­to the cir­cum­stances sur­round­ing the shoot­ing, which re­port­ed­ly oc­curred in Lovell Street, Monte Grande, Tu­na­puna.

Huyjhew was dropped off at the Er­ic Williams Med­ical Sci­ences Com­plex, Mt Hope, by an un­known man, bleed­ing from mul­ti­ple gun­shot wounds.

He was found to be un­re­spon­sive and de­clared dead on ar­rival by med­ical of­fi­cials.

The po­lice were con­tact­ed and ar­rived to col­lect avail­able in­for­ma­tion be­fore head­ing to the al­leged scene of the at­tack.

In the third mur­der around 9 am yes­ter­day, Ab­dur Mo­hammed, 40, of Mal­oney Gar­dens, left the Bon Air High School, where he is em­ployed as a main­te­nance work­er, and went to Wood­star Av­enue to pur­chase cig­a­rettes.

While there, how­ev­er, it is al­leged that an armed man ap­proached him from be­hind and fired sev­er­al shots in his di­rec­tion.

Mo­hammed ran a short dis­tance be­fore col­laps­ing, while be­ing pur­sued by the gun­man who fol­lowed and kept on fir­ing.

The gun­man lat­er fled in a wait­ing ve­hi­cle.

En­quiries are con­tin­u­ing in­to all the killings.
