Officers attached to the Morvant Police Station and the North Eastern Division Task Force (NEDTF) seized 15 rounds of ammunition during an anti-crime operation in Morvant on Monday.

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), the exercise took place in the Cipriani Avenue and 2nd Caledonia areas and was aimed at targeting illegal firearm activity and improving public safety.

Police said officers conducted searches in several areas during the exercise. During a search near a basketball court, officers discovered a black plastic bag containing a transparent bag with ammunition.

The cache consisted of four rounds of .223mm ammunition and 11 rounds of .300mm ammunition.

Investigators said the ammunition was seized and taken to the San Juan Police Sub Station pending further inquiries.

No arrests were reported up to Monday afternoon, and investigations are continuing.

The TTPS said the operation formed part of ongoing efforts to disrupt criminal activity and remove illegal weapons and ammunition from communities.

In its statement, the police service reiterated its commitment to public safety and urged residents to continue cooperating with law enforcement by sharing information on suspicious activities.

The Morvant district has been the focus of several police exercises in recent months as officers intensify operations targeting gangs, illegal firearms and violent crime.

Police have repeatedly appealed to members of the public to provide information that can assist investigations, stressing that intelligence from residents remains a key tool in crime-fighting efforts across the country.
