Former Minority Leader Kelvon Morris will challenge former Tobago West MP Shamfa Cudjoe for leadership of the PNM Tobago Council.
Morris announced his candidacy in a Facebook Live on March 12, one week after Cudjoe threw her hat in the ring.
Morris said he is ready for the responsibility and credited his tenure as the sole PNM assemblyman in the last THA administration with building his character.
“My vision is clear and my mandate is clearer,” Morris said.
He called for the party to “listen more closely”, find practical solutions for young people, and build the economy.
“Above all, we must rebuild belief that the PNM remains a party that listens, the PNM remains a party that learns, and the PNM remains a party that leads.”
The PNM lost the last THA elections by a landslide, 15–0, the third straight poll the party has failed to win.
Current PNM Tobago Council leader Ancil Dennis announced his decision to step aside after the party’s defeat on January 12.
The PNM will be seeking its fourth leader in six years since Tracy Davidson-Celestine beat former Chief Secretary Kelvin Charles in the 2020 PNM internal elections.
