Man sends voice note to girlfriend naming attacker before dying

A chill­ing What­sApp voice mes­sage a 32-year-old Point Fortin man sent to his girl­friend, short­ly af­ter he was stabbed, is now a key part of a po­lice in­ves­ti­ga­tion in­to his mur­der.

Ste­fan Lei­th died on Thurs­day af­ter he was stabbed in the chest along Wa­ter­lane Street, Princes Town.

Ac­cord­ing to a po­lice re­port, around 4.47 pm, he was walk­ing along the road when a man he knew stabbed him.

The vic­tim ran a short dis­tance be­fore get­ting in­to a car and was tak­en to the Princes Town Health Fa­cil­i­ty for treat­ment.

His girl­friend was at work when she re­ceived a voice note from Lei­th about a minute lat­er.

He told her he was go­ing to the hos­pi­tal be­cause he had been stabbed by a man who was al­so known to her.

Lei­th told her he was hav­ing dif­fi­cul­ty breath­ing. Be­fore suc­cumb­ing to his in­jury at the hos­pi­tal, he al­so told the po­lice who at­tacked him.

Po­lice con­firmed that Lei­th’s girl­friend had end­ed her re­la­tion­ship with the sus­pect two years ago and she had tak­en out a pro­tec­tion or­der against him.

Homi­cide Bu­reau Re­gion 3 of­fi­cers are in­ves­ti­gat­ing.
