A 40-year-old man named Gary Griffith—not the former Police Commissioner—was shot dead on Tuesday night in Tarouba.

According to police reports, the shooting occurred around 10:55 pm on Derek Murray Drive, a short distance away from Griffith’s home on the same street.

An anonymous informant called the E999 Police Command Centre after hearing a loud explosion in the area.

First responders from the Marabella Police Station arrived at the scene and found Griffith lying on the roadway with gunshot wounds.

Inquiries revealed that Griffith was walking north along Derek Murray Drive when a white Nissan Tiida pulled alongside him and its occupants fired multiple shots before fleeing the scene.

Three spent 9-millimetre casings marked “PAC 9mm Luger” were recovered at the scene.

Griffith was transported to the San Fernando General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:29 pm.

Officers of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region 3 are investigating.
