Man held after stolen cheese recovered in Tacarigua

A man is in po­lice cus­tody af­ter of­fi­cers re­cov­ered stolen cheese dur­ing an op­er­a­tion in the Tacarigua dis­trict on Tues­day.

Po­lice said the ex­er­cise took place be­tween 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. by of­fi­cers of the North Cen­tral Di­vi­sion in con­nec­tion with a re­port of lar­ce­ny of food prod­ucts at a dis­tri­b­u­tion com­pa­ny in the Ma­coya dis­trict on March 18.

Man­age­ment of the com­pa­ny re­port­ed that 50 cas­es of cheese, weigh­ing 20 kilo­grammes, were miss­ing.

Of­fi­cers con­duct­ed en­quiries which led to a search at a su­per­mar­ket in Tacarigua. Dur­ing the search, po­lice re­cov­ered all 50 cas­es of cheese re­port­ed stolen.

A 38-year-old man was ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the find.

Po­lice said the op­er­a­tion was led by Snr. Supt. Gift, Supt. Jaikaran, ASP Bharat, In­sp. (Ag.) Pe­ters and In­sp. (Ag.) Rol­locks.

Of­fi­cers at­tached to the North Cen­tral Di­vi­sion Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment, Op­er­a­tions Unit and the North Cen­tral Di­vi­sion CID Area West-Tu­na­puna al­so took part.
