A District Medical Officer later pronounced him dead at the scene. His body was removed pending a post-mortem at the Forensic Science Centre.

Investigators said Ramlakhan had earlier been found in distress by a relative, who attempted to get medical help. He was a psychiatric patient at the San Fernando General Hospital and suffered from epileptic seizures.
