The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) says a 33-year-old man has been charged in connection with a store breaking and larceny at a jewellery shop in Princes Town.
The incident occurred at a jewellery store on High Street, Princes Town, and was reported on Monday 16 February 2026.
Following extensive investigations by officers of the Princes Town Criminal Investigations Department, PC Basdeo arrested Anil Bassawan of Union Village, Rio Claro, for the offence of store breaking and larceny.
The investigation was carried out under the supervision of ASP Pacheco, Inspector Wilkinson, Acting Sergeant Teeluck, Corporal Ramkissoon, and Acting Corporal Ali, with instructions from Superintendent Bridgelal.
Bassawan appeared before the South Oropouche (Aijipa) Court on Thursday 19 March 2026, before Master Kimitria Gray. He was not required to plead and was granted bail of $650,000 with surety.
Bail conditions include reporting to the Rio Claro Police Station three times weekly, observing a nightly curfew, avoiding contact with the complainant, and remaining at least 500 metres away from her at all times.
The matter has been transferred to the Princes Town 1st Magistrates’ Court and is scheduled for hearing next Tuesday, April 21, 2026.
