Man charged with store breaking and larceny in Princes Town

The Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice (TTPS) says a 33-year-old man has been charged in con­nec­tion with a store break­ing and lar­ce­ny at a jew­ellery shop in Princes Town.

The in­ci­dent oc­curred at a jew­ellery store on High Street, Princes Town, and was re­port­ed on Mon­day 16 Feb­ru­ary 2026.

Fol­low­ing ex­ten­sive in­ves­ti­ga­tions by of­fi­cers of the Princes Town Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment, PC Bas­deo ar­rest­ed Anil Bas­sawan of Union Vil­lage, Rio Claro, for the of­fence of store break­ing and lar­ce­ny.

The in­ves­ti­ga­tion was car­ried out un­der the su­per­vi­sion of ASP Pacheco, In­spec­tor Wilkin­son, Act­ing Sergeant Teeluck, Cor­po­ral Ramkissoon, and Act­ing Cor­po­ral Ali, with in­struc­tions from Su­per­in­ten­dent Bridge­lal.

Bas­sawan ap­peared be­fore the South Oropouche (Ai­ji­pa) Court on Thurs­day 19 March 2026, be­fore Mas­ter Kim­i­tria Gray. He was not re­quired to plead and was grant­ed bail of $650,000 with sure­ty.

Bail con­di­tions in­clude re­port­ing to the Rio Claro Po­lice Sta­tion three times week­ly, ob­serv­ing a night­ly cur­few, avoid­ing con­tact with the com­plainant, and re­main­ing at least 500 me­tres away from her at all times.

The mat­ter has been trans­ferred to the Princes Town 1st Mag­is­trates’ Court and is sched­uled for hear­ing next Tues­day, April 21, 2026.
