A 23-year-old Arouca man was arrested yesterday for impersonating a police officer, according to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.

The TTPS reported that officers carried out an intelligence-led operation on March 4 which led to the arrest and the seizure of several counterfeit police items, including a fake TTPS identification card and police kit.

Officers from the North Central Division Task Force West, North Central Division Task Force East and the Special Branch conducted the exercise.

Police said that at about 12:30 pm officers received coordinated intelligence that a suspicious individual believed to be armed and unlawfully posing as a TTPS officer was in the vicinity of Piarco Old Road.

Officers responded to the information and carried out a search at the suspect’s residence along Piarco Old Road.

During the search, officers seized several items believed to be counterfeit police equipment, including a fake TTPS ID card and other police gear.

Police arrested the 23-year-old man during the exercise.
