Lost hikers rescued in forest

Two hik­ers who be­came lost in the North­ern Range be­tween Mon­day March 30 and Tues­day March 31, 2026 were res­cued by of­fi­cers of the Air Sup­port Unit.

The hik­ers ven­tured off course while at­tempt­ing to ac­cess an aero­plane crash site via Bam­boo Cathe­dral, Mac­queripe, and be­came dis­ori­ent­ed in dense for­est.

The Air Sup­port Unit re­spond­ed af­ter re­ceiv­ing the re­port, de­ploy­ing drones to con­duct aer­i­al search­es and es­tab­lish com­mu­ni­ca­tion. Us­ing FLIR ther­mal imag­ing, of­fi­cers lo­cat­ed the hik­ers de­spite low vis­i­bil­i­ty and thick veg­e­ta­tion, and main­tained overnight aer­i­al sup­port.

Guid­ed by re­al-time da­ta, of­fi­cers of the Mul­ti Op­tion Po­lice Sec­tion, sup­port­ed by the Trinidad and To­ba­go De­fence Force, reached the hik­ers ear­ly Tues­day.

Both were safe­ly res­cued and med­ical­ly as­sessed, with no se­ri­ous in­juries.

The Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice al­so ac­knowl­edged sup­port from vol­un­teer re­spon­ders and the Trinidad and To­ba­go Fire Ser­vice.

The TTPS re­mind­ed the pub­lic to ex­er­cise cau­tion and prop­er­ly plan be­fore hik­ing.
