Two hikers who became lost in the Northern Range between Monday March 30 and Tuesday March 31, 2026 were rescued by officers of the Air Support Unit.
The hikers ventured off course while attempting to access an aeroplane crash site via Bamboo Cathedral, Macqueripe, and became disoriented in dense forest.
The Air Support Unit responded after receiving the report, deploying drones to conduct aerial searches and establish communication. Using FLIR thermal imaging, officers located the hikers despite low visibility and thick vegetation, and maintained overnight aerial support.
Guided by real-time data, officers of the Multi Option Police Section, supported by the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force, reached the hikers early Tuesday.
Both were safely rescued and medically assessed, with no serious injuries.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service also acknowledged support from volunteer responders and the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service.
The TTPS reminded the public to exercise caution and properly plan before hiking.
