A 62-year-old man has died after drowning at Tyrico Bay on Sunday afternoon.
Police said the victim has been identified as Anthony Daniel of Upper Thomasine Street, Laventille.
According to police reports, around 2.45 pm Daniel was pulled from the water and given CPR before being taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital, where he died around 5.30 pm.
Police said that between 11 am and noon Daniel and his wife went to the beach, where he went about 20 to 30 feet from the shoreline.
It was reported that a wave took him underwater and he disappeared for several minutes before he was rescued.
Two beachgoers performed CPR before Emergency Health Services officers arrived and took over.
Daniel was taken to hospital, where he later died.
