Laventille man drowns at Tyrico Bay

A 62-year-old man has died af­ter drown­ing at Tyri­co Bay on Sun­day af­ter­noon.

Po­lice said the vic­tim has been iden­ti­fied as An­tho­ny Daniel of Up­per Thoma­sine Street, Laven­tille.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports, around 2.45 pm Daniel was pulled from the wa­ter and giv­en CPR be­fore be­ing tak­en to the Port of Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal, where he died around 5.30 pm.

Po­lice said that be­tween 11 am and noon Daniel and his wife went to the beach, where he went about 20 to 30 feet from the shore­line.

It was re­port­ed that a wave took him un­der­wa­ter and he dis­ap­peared for sev­er­al min­utes be­fore he was res­cued.

Two beach­go­ers per­formed CPR be­fore Emer­gency Health Ser­vices of­fi­cers ar­rived and took over.

Daniel was tak­en to hos­pi­tal, where he lat­er died.
