Jet ski operator to face manslaughter charge over death of girl at Pigeon Point

More than three months af­ter sev­en-year-old An­gel­i­ca Jo­gie died in a jet ski ac­ci­dent in To­ba­go, the Di­rec­tor of Pub­lic Pros­e­cu­tions (DPP) has ad­vised that the op­er­a­tor be charged with manslaugh­ter.

Se­nior Su­per­in­ten­dent Rod­hill Kirk con­firmed on Mon­day that the 32-year-old Canaan res­i­dent was re­ar­rest­ed af­ter fur­ther in­ves­ti­ga­tions in­to the in­ci­dent. The sus­pect was ini­tial­ly de­tained hours af­ter the April tragedy but was lat­er re­leased pend­ing ad­di­tion­al in­quiries.

Po­lice said the charge was ex­pect­ed to be laid on Mon­day, with the ac­cused ex­pect­ed to ap­pear be­fore the court on Tues­day.

Sev­en-year-old An­gel­i­ca Saydee Jo­gie died on April 8, 2026, af­ter she was struck by a jet ski while bathing with rel­a­tives at Pi­geon Point Her­itage Park in To­ba­go. Po­lice said the jet ski col­lid­ed with An­gel­i­ca, her par­ents and her un­cle in­side an area des­ig­nat­ed for bathers. An­gel­i­ca suf­fered mul­ti­ple trau­mat­ic in­juries, in­clud­ing se­vere head in­juries, and was pro­nounced dead at the Scar­bor­ough Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal.

A 32-year-old Canaan man was ar­rest­ed by po­lice hours af­ter the in­ci­dent. He was re­leased on April 20 af­ter in­ves­ti­ga­tors said they need­ed more time to com­plete in­quiries and pre­pare a file for the Di­rec­tor of Pub­lic Pros­e­cu­tions. Se­nior Su­per­in­ten­dent Rod­hill Kirk said the re­lease did not mean the sus­pect had been cleared.
