The MV Blue Wave Harmony sustained hull damage during a sea trial at the Port of Scarborough on Friday.
The vessel is in the sea-trial phase, which forms part of the process before entry into commercial service. Its first sea trial took place on Tuesday when the vessel sailed from the Port of Port of Spain to the Port of Scarborough as part of its commissioning programme.
On Thursday, the Blue Wave Harmony departed the Port of Port of Spain for a second sea trial to Scarborough. During berthing at the Port of Scarborough on Friday morning, an incident occurred that resulted in damage to the hull.
At the time of the incident, the captain was assisted by a marine pilot, in line with operational practice. Only crew members were on board. There were no reports of injuries.
Following the incident, the vessel was secured alongside a berth at the Port of Scarborough. Safety protocols were activated. The vessel remains stable.
Information provided indicates that weather conditions, including winds, were factors in the incident. The circumstances surrounding the event are under assessment.
Port operations at the Port of Scarborough connected to inter-island ferry sailings continue as normal.
Ferry services were not affected by the incident.
Technical teams are carrying out damage assessments. The assessments are being conducted with the vessel operator and the relevant agencies.
Further updates are expected once the assessments are completed and a course of action is determined regarding repairs and the continuation of the commissioning process.
