Four serving soldiers admitted to the Bar

Four serv­ing mem­bers of the Trinidad and To­ba­go Reg­i­ment were ad­mit­ted to the Bar as at­tor­neys last week.

Sources with­in the De­fence Force con­firmed that Cap­tain Suresh Sood­eens­ingh, Cap­tain Javed Barie Ho­sein, Sergeant Yohance Noel and Pri­vate Paula Pierre com­plet­ed their le­gal stud­ies and were ad­mit­ted to prac­tise.

Se­nior De­fence Force of­fi­cials said the achieve­ment adds to the grow­ing num­ber of legal­ly qual­i­fied mil­i­tary per­son­nel with­in the or­gan­i­sa­tion.

The new­ly ad­mit­ted at­tor­neys were en­cour­aged to up­hold the val­ues of in­tegri­ty, ho­n­our, hu­mil­i­ty, courage and ser­vice in their new roles as of­fi­cers of the court.

They were al­so urged to use their le­gal train­ing to pro­tect vul­ner­a­ble peo­ple and strength­en de­mo­c­ra­t­ic in­sti­tu­tions, prin­ci­ples that of­fi­cials said align with mil­i­tary ser­vice.

One mil­i­tary of­fi­cer, who asked not to be named, said it is be­lieved to be the first time in re­cent his­to­ry that four serv­ing sol­diers have been ad­mit­ted to the Bar si­mul­ta­ne­ous­ly, re­flect­ing the or­gan­i­sa­tion’s em­pha­sis on ed­u­ca­tion, skills train­ing and lead­er­ship de­vel­op
