Four serving members of the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment were admitted to the Bar as attorneys last week.
Sources within the Defence Force confirmed that Captain Suresh Soodeensingh, Captain Javed Barie Hosein, Sergeant Yohance Noel and Private Paula Pierre completed their legal studies and were admitted to practise.
Senior Defence Force officials said the achievement adds to the growing number of legally qualified military personnel within the organisation.
The newly admitted attorneys were encouraged to uphold the values of integrity, honour, humility, courage and service in their new roles as officers of the court.
They were also urged to use their legal training to protect vulnerable people and strengthen democratic institutions, principles that officials said align with military service.
One military officer, who asked not to be named, said it is believed to be the first time in recent history that four serving soldiers have been admitted to the Bar simultaneously, reflecting the organisation’s emphasis on education, skills training and leadership develop
