Four arrested in Laventille anti-crime exercise

Four peo­ple were ar­rest­ed dur­ing an an­ti-crime ex­er­cise con­duct­ed by the Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice (TTPS) in Laven­tille on Sun­day.

Po­lice said the op­er­a­tion took place be­tween 2 pm and 6 pm and cov­ered sev­er­al ar­eas, in­clud­ing Cal­vary Hill, Bath Street, Basilon Street, East­ern Quar­ry and Man­go Rose. The ex­er­cise was car­ried out by co­or­di­nat­ed teams with­in the Port of Spain Di­vi­sion.

Of­fi­cers from mul­ti­ple units par­tic­i­pat­ed, in­clud­ing the In­ves­ti­ga­tion and Op­er­a­tions Unit, Gang and In­tel­li­gence Unit, Port of Spain Task Force, Besson Street Po­lice Sta­tion, Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment Area East, St Clair Po­lice Sta­tion, Cen­tral Po­lice Sta­tion, Cap­i­tal City Pa­trol Unit, Bel­mont Po­lice Sta­tion, Ca­nine Unit, and the Court and Process War­rant Sec­tion.

Dur­ing the ex­er­cise, of­fi­cers searched hous­es, apart­ments, aban­doned build­ings, drug blocks, and ve­hi­cles. Po­lice said the search­es were part of ef­forts to lo­cate il­le­gal firearms and oth­er items.

The op­er­a­tion re­sult­ed in the ar­rest of four in­di­vid­u­als. Three were held in con­nec­tion with Pre­ven­ta­tive De­ten­tion Or­ders. One per­son was ar­rest­ed for sus­pect­ed in­volve­ment in home in­va­sions, rob­beries, and the de­struc­tion of an elec­tron­ic mon­i­tor­ing de­vice.

Po­lice said the ex­er­cise was led by DCP Op­er­a­tions Suzette Mar­tin and ACP Hen­ry. Strate­gic over­sight was pro­vid­ed by Snr Supt Thom. Su­per­vi­sion was car­ried out by Supt Re­vanales, Supt Baird, ASP Cadette and ASP Mungroo.
