Foreign national arrested in ketamine seizure in Arouca

Of­fi­cers of the Port of Spain Di­vi­sion ar­rest­ed a for­eign na­tion­al and seized a quan­ti­ty of sus­pect­ed Ke­t­a­mine dur­ing an an­ti-nar­cotics ex­er­cise in Arou­ca on Fri­day.

Po­lice said the ex­er­cise took place be­tween 10 am and 3 pm on Feb­ru­ary 21, af­ter of­fi­cers re­ceived in­tel­li­gence re­gard­ing a per­son al­leged­ly in pos­ses­sion of nar­cotics at a ho­tel along the East­ern Main Road.

Around 10.40 am, of­fi­cers went to the ho­tel and were grant­ed ac­cess to a room oc­cu­pied by the sus­pect. Af­ter iden­ti­fy­ing them­selves and in­form­ing the oc­cu­pant of the re­port re­ceived, of­fi­cers searched a blue suit­case in the room.

Dur­ing the search, of­fi­cers found three trans­par­ent plas­tic bags con­tain­ing Ke­t­a­mine. The sub­stance was con­cealed in­side a blue neck pil­low, po­lice said.

The sus­pect, iden­ti­fied as a male for­eign na­tion­al from Suri­name, was cau­tioned in ac­cor­dance with the Judges’ Rules and ar­rest­ed on sus­pi­cion of pos­ses­sion of a dan­ger­ous drug.

He was tak­en to the Besson Street Po­lice Sta­tion along with the seized items.

Po­lice said the quan­ti­ty of sus­pect­ed Ke­t­a­mine has been se­cured and will be sub­mit­ted for foren­sic analy­sis.

In­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing.

The Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice urged mem­bers of the pub­lic to re­port sus­pi­cious ac­tiv­i­ty as part of ef­forts to com­bat the traf­fick­ing and dis­tri­b­u­tion of il­le­gal nar­cotics.
