Officers of the Port of Spain Division arrested a foreign national and seized a quantity of suspected Ketamine during an anti-narcotics exercise in Arouca on Friday.
Police said the exercise took place between 10 am and 3 pm on February 21, after officers received intelligence regarding a person allegedly in possession of narcotics at a hotel along the Eastern Main Road.
Around 10.40 am, officers went to the hotel and were granted access to a room occupied by the suspect. After identifying themselves and informing the occupant of the report received, officers searched a blue suitcase in the room.
During the search, officers found three transparent plastic bags containing Ketamine. The substance was concealed inside a blue neck pillow, police said.
The suspect, identified as a male foreign national from Suriname, was cautioned in accordance with the Judges’ Rules and arrested on suspicion of possession of a dangerous drug.
He was taken to the Besson Street Police Station along with the seized items.
Police said the quantity of suspected Ketamine has been secured and will be submitted for forensic analysis.
Investigations are continuing.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service urged members of the public to report suspicious activity as part of efforts to combat the trafficking and distribution of illegal narcotics.
