Firearm seized during Operation Festive Shield

One man was ar­rest­ed, a firearm and am­mu­ni­tion were seized, and sev­er­al fixed penal­ty no­tices were is­sued dur­ing Op­er­a­tion Fes­tive Shield ex­er­cis­es in the Cen­tral Di­vi­sion be­tween Tues­day night and Wednes­day.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice, of­fi­cers of the Cen­tral Di­vi­sion Task Force, Ar­eas North and South, con­duct­ed an ex­er­cise be­tween 10 pm on De­cem­ber 10 and 2 am on De­cem­ber 11. Act­ing on in­tel­li­gence, of­fi­cers went to Marie Street, Ch­agua­nas, where they searched a man and found a brown and black re­volver loaded with five rounds of .38 am­mu­ni­tion. The 32-year-old man of Jern­ing­ham Junc­tion Road, Char­lieville, did not have a Firearm User’s Li­cence. He was ar­rest­ed, and the firearm and am­mu­ni­tion were seized. In­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing.

Po­lice said that be­tween 10 am and 2 pm on Wednes­day, of­fi­cers of the Cou­va Foot Pa­trol Unit and the Cou­va Crime Pa­trol Unit con­duct­ed Op­er­a­tion Fes­tive Shield ex­er­cis­es in the Cou­va dis­trict. Of­fi­cers went to Anand Yankaran Ex­ten­sion, Cou­va, where they searched an aban­doned house and found 27 rounds of 7.62mm am­mu­ni­tion. The am­mu­ni­tion was seized, and en­quiries are on­go­ing.

Dur­ing the Cou­va ex­er­cise, of­fi­cers is­sued 20 fixed penal­ty no­tices. These in­clud­ed 15 for no Cer­tifi­cate of In­spec­tion, three for fail­ing to wear a seat­belt, one for dri­ving while us­ing a hand­held de­vice, and one for us­ing a ve­hi­cle con­trary to reg­is­tra­tion.

In Cunu­pia, of­fi­cers of the Cunu­pia Po­lice Sta­tion is­sued eight fixed penal­ty no­tices for de­fec­tive fit­tings, no Cer­tifi­cate of In­spec­tion, no head­light, dri­ving with­out a seat­belt, no tail­light, and fail­ing to main­tain a wind­screen.
