One man was arrested, a firearm and ammunition were seized, and several fixed penalty notices were issued during Operation Festive Shield exercises in the Central Division between Tuesday night and Wednesday.
According to police, officers of the Central Division Task Force, Areas North and South, conducted an exercise between 10 pm on December 10 and 2 am on December 11. Acting on intelligence, officers went to Marie Street, Chaguanas, where they searched a man and found a brown and black revolver loaded with five rounds of .38 ammunition. The 32-year-old man of Jerningham Junction Road, Charlieville, did not have a Firearm User’s Licence. He was arrested, and the firearm and ammunition were seized. Investigations are continuing.
Police said that between 10 am and 2 pm on Wednesday, officers of the Couva Foot Patrol Unit and the Couva Crime Patrol Unit conducted Operation Festive Shield exercises in the Couva district. Officers went to Anand Yankaran Extension, Couva, where they searched an abandoned house and found 27 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. The ammunition was seized, and enquiries are ongoing.
During the Couva exercise, officers issued 20 fixed penalty notices. These included 15 for no Certificate of Inspection, three for failing to wear a seatbelt, one for driving while using a handheld device, and one for using a vehicle contrary to registration.
In Cunupia, officers of the Cunupia Police Station issued eight fixed penalty notices for defective fittings, no Certificate of Inspection, no headlight, driving without a seatbelt, no taillight, and failing to maintain a windscreen.
