Police seized a firearm, nine rounds of ammunition and a quantity of suspected Ecstasy during an anti-crime exercise in Diego Martin on Tuesday.

Officers of the Western Division Gang and Intelligence Unit (WDGIU) conducted the exercise between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Monday.

During the search, officers found a black metal and plastic object bearing the markings “Glock 19 Gen 5”, which police said resembled a firearm.

The serial number was reportedly filed off.

The object was fitted with a magazine containing nine rounds of 9mm ammunition.

Police also conducted a search of a nearby area, where they found a clear plastic bag containing approximately 7.9 grammes of a transparent, rock-like substance suspected to be Ecstasy.

A handheld two-way radio transceiver was also seized.

Further searches were conducted at known drug blocks in the River Estate Basketball Court, Mercer Road, Covigne Road and Toyer Street, Patna Village.

Police said no further illegal items were found during those searches.

The exercise was sanctioned by Senior Superintendent Williams and led by Acting Assistant Superintendent Burris, with officers of the WDGIU providing oversight and coordination.

The police said enquiries are continuing into the seizures.
