A family in Edinburgh 500 suffered hundreds of thousands of dollars in losses after a fire destroyed two vehicles and partially damaged their home on Tuesday evening.
Marla Pacheco, 49, a legal officer with NP, was at home with her 78-year-old father around 5.55 pm when they heard a loud explosion. When she checked, she saw her father’s Hyundai Tucson, valued at $80,000 and parked in the garage, on fire.
The blaze quickly spread to a Nissan Qashqai, valued at $250,000, which was parked nearby, and then extended to the house. The home, valued at $1.3 million, sustained partial damage.
Fire officers responded, but both vehicles were destroyed. No one was injured.
Police were told the Hyundai Tucson underwent mechanical repairs on Monday. The cause of the fire remains undetermined.
T&TEC personnel removed the electricity meter as investigations continue. WPC Gunn and PC Kennedy of the Chaguanas Police Station are investigating.
