An estate constable accidentally shot himself in the foot during a routine patrol in Marabella on Thursday night.

The 36-year-old constable, employed with Amalgamated Security Services, was on patrol in the Marabella Police District with a colleague, checking TSTT installations.

Shortly before 10.00 p.m., he was checking an installation at the Pointe-a-Pierre Bridge when he leaned over a railing while holding his issued Escort 12-gauge shotgun. The firearm discharged and he was struck in his right foot.

When he arrived at the San Fernando General Hospital, a nurse contacted police. Officers seized the shotgun, 11 rounds of 12-gauge cartridges and a spent casing.

Investigations are ongoing.
