Two elderly men were beaten and robbed by bandits in separate incidents, hours apart on Sunday.

In the most recent attack, a 71-year-old Barataria man was bound, beaten and robbed when three bandits stormed his home at around 11.30 pm. Police said the man was in the kitchen of his Eighth Street home when the bandits confronted him, stealing his cellphone and $10,000 in cash.

The attackers then led the man to the bathroom, tied his hands, and beat him before locking him inside. They also stole the man’s black Hyundai Tucson, $20,000 in cash and US $1,500 from a drawer in the house before fleeing. The man managed to free himself and reported the incident.

Officers of the Barataria CID and the North Eastern Division Crime Scene Investigation (NED CSI) Unit are continuing enquiries.

Hours earlier, at around 6.20 pm, a 68-year-old woman was in the gallery of her Old Plum Road, Manzanilla home when a bandit pressed a knife against her neck. He pushed her to the ground as two other bandits entered the house, confronted her 70-year-old husband and beat him. A 21-year-old woman in the house at the time was also beaten and robbed.

The attackers stole a blue Nissan Tiida belonging to the family and escaped. Officers of the Eastern Division visited the scene, and hours later the stolen car was found abandoned on Calypso Road, Manzanilla, and towed to the Sangre Grande Police Station.
