Diego Martin man killed in Santa Cruz

Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing the mur­der 28-year-old man who was gunned down in a car in San­ta Cruz on Wednes­day night.

Po­lice said of­fi­cers of the North East­ern Di­vi­sion re­ceived a re­port of gun­fire on Sun Val­ley Ex­ten­sion, La Canoa Road, just be­fore 9 pm and went to the scene.

On ar­rival, they found the body of Ha­keem Bak­er in the front pas­sen­ger seat of a sil­ver Nis­san B14, which was part­ly in a drain at the side of the road.

A dis­trict med­ical of­fi­cer was called in, who de­clared Bak­er dead at the scene.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors spec­u­late that Bak­er crashed the car when he came un­der fire and tried to es­cape from the gun­men by climb­ing in­to the pas­sen­ger side seat where he even­tu­al­ly died.

Of­fi­cers of the Re­gion II Homi­cide Bu­reau are con­tin­u­ing en­quiries.
