Cops kill one after Cascade shoot-out

Po­lice are try­ing to con­firm the iden­ti­ty of a man who was shot and killed dur­ing a pur­port­ed shoot-out with of­fi­cers of the Guard and Emer­gency Branch (GEB), who were on pa­trol in Cas­cade on Sun­day night.

Po­lice said of­fi­cers were on pa­trol around 10 pm along the West­ern Main Road when they no­ticed a white Nis­san AD Wag­on near­by with three men in­side.

On see­ing the po­lice ve­hi­cle, the men sped off, lead­ing of­fi­cers on a chase to Mt Holo­lo, Cas­cade.

Dur­ing the chase, the men al­leged­ly opened fire on the po­lice, who re­turned fire, caus­ing the AD Wag­on to veer off the road­way.

Two of the sus­pects es­caped, while the third, who was shot, was tak­en to the Port of Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal, where he was de­clared dead.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors found six spent 5.56 shells at the scene.
