A 21-year-old man was shot dead in Cocorite this morning after previously dismissing warnings about threats to his life.
Police said officers responded to a report of a shooting at Upper Waterhole just after 10 am.
When they arrived, they found the body of Omar Mohammed, of Powder Magazine, Cocorite.
Police said Mohammed was a chronic drug user and had recently reported threats to his life. Officers warned him to leave the area for his safety.
Investigators said Mohammed refused and told officers, “Nobody could run me out of Cocorite.”
Police said Mohammed later became involved in an argument and was chased by gunmen before he was shot and collapsed at the scene.
Investigators are treating the killing as gang related.
