Citizenship application fees rise from January 1

New fees for ap­pli­ca­tions and ap­provals for cit­i­zen­ship, reg­is­tra­tion, and nat­u­ral­i­sa­tion in Trinidad and To­ba­go will take ef­fect from Jan­u­ary 1, 2026, fol­low­ing amend­ments to the Cit­i­zen­ship of the Re­pub­lic of Trinidad and To­ba­go Reg­u­la­tions.

The reg­u­la­tions, which re­voke and re­place the Sec­ond Sched­ule, set fees rang­ing from $50 to $200 for ap­pli­ca­tions, with ad­di­tion­al ap­proval charges be­tween $400 and $1,800 de­pend­ing on the cat­e­go­ry. Cit­i­zens of CARI­COM and Com­mon­wealth coun­tries will pay low­er fees in cer­tain cas­es.

Un­der the re­vised sched­ule, the grant of a Cer­tifi­cate of Cit­i­zen­ship to a mi­nor un­der Sec­tion 5 at­tracts an ap­pli­ca­tion fee of $100, with a fur­ther $500 payable if the ap­pli­ca­tion is ap­proved.

For the grant of a Cer­tifi­cate of Reg­is­tra­tion to a mi­nor un­der Sec­tion 8, ap­pli­cants must pay $100 on ap­pli­ca­tion and an ad­di­tion­al $500 on ap­proval.

Adults ap­ply­ing for a Cer­tifi­cate of Reg­is­tra­tion un­der Sec­tion 7 will pay dif­fer­ent amounts de­pend­ing on their sta­tus. Cit­i­zens of Caribbean Com­mon Mar­ket coun­tries will pay $50 on ap­pli­ca­tion and a fur­ther $800 if the cer­tifi­cate is grant­ed. Per­sons who are not cit­i­zens of Cari­com coun­tries will pay $100 on ap­pli­ca­tion and $1,000 up­on ap­proval.

Ap­pli­ca­tions for a Cer­tifi­cate of Cit­i­zen­ship un­der Sec­tion 11(2) car­ry a $100 ap­pli­ca­tion fee, with a fur­ther $1,000 payable if ap­proved.

Nat­u­ral­i­sa­tion fees un­der Sec­tion 12 al­so have been re­vised. Cit­i­zens of Com­mon­wealth coun­tries will pay $200 on ap­pli­ca­tion and $1,600 on ap­proval. Cit­i­zens of non-Com­mon­wealth coun­tries will pay $200 on ap­pli­ca­tion and $1,800 if ap­proved.

In cas­es of doubt, an ap­pli­ca­tion for a Cer­tifi­cate of Cit­i­zen­ship will cost $100, with a fur­ther $400 payable if the ap­pli­ca­tion is grant­ed.

Ad­min­is­tra­tive fees al­so are spec­i­fied. Wit­ness­ing the sign­ing of an ap­pli­ca­tion or de­c­la­ra­tion will cost $100, as will ad­min­is­ter­ing the Oath of Al­le­giance.

Where a de­c­la­ra­tion is made be­fore a Judge, Jus­tice of the Peace or Pub­lic Of­fi­cer, the fee will be col­lect­ed by stamps. Where it is made be­fore a Com­mis­sion­er of Af­fi­davits ap­point­ed un­der the Com­mis­sion­er of Af­fi­davits Act, the fee will be paid to that Com­mis­sion­er.

The fee for sup­ply­ing an au­then­ti­cat­ed copy of any no­tice, cer­tifi­cate, or­der, de­c­la­ra­tion or en­try grant­ed or made un­der the Act is set at $100. Re­nun­ci­a­tion of cit­i­zen­ship will cost $200.
