Chaguanas man dies in highway crash

A 63-year-old Ch­agua­nas man died on Thurs­day night af­ter the sports car he was dri­ving crashed and caught fire along the Uri­ah But­ler High­way.

Bee­sham Philip, of Ma­haraj Street, Mon­trose, was trav­el­ling north around 10.15 pm when he lost con­trol of his Maz­da RX-8, reg­is­tra­tion PCZ 7033. The ve­hi­cle struck a con­crete bar­ri­er on the west­ern side of the high­way near the Di­vali Na­gar walkover in Ch­agua­nas.

Po­lice said Philip was alone in the car, which burst in­to flames af­ter the im­pact. He suf­fered se­vere burns to his up­per body and was pro­nounced dead at the scene by the Dis­trict Med­ical Of­fi­cer.

Most of the ve­hi­cle’s front end, in­clud­ing the ro­tary en­gine, was de­stroyed.
