A 63-year-old Chaguanas man died on Thursday night after the sports car he was driving crashed and caught fire along the Uriah Butler Highway.
Beesham Philip, of Maharaj Street, Montrose, was travelling north around 10.15 pm when he lost control of his Mazda RX-8, registration PCZ 7033. The vehicle struck a concrete barrier on the western side of the highway near the Divali Nagar walkover in Chaguanas.
Police said Philip was alone in the car, which burst into flames after the impact. He suffered severe burns to his upper body and was pronounced dead at the scene by the District Medical Officer.
Most of the vehicle’s front end, including the rotary engine, was destroyed.
Investigations are continuing.
