CARICOM Eminent Persons Group discusses Haiti transition

The CARI­COM Em­i­nent Per­sons Group, made up of for­mer prime min­is­ters Dr Ken­ny An­tho­ny, Bruce Gold­ing and Per­ry Christie, at­tend­ed an Or­ga­ni­za­tion of Amer­i­can States con­sul­ta­tive meet­ing on Haiti on Feb­ru­ary 2, 2026, in Wash­ing­ton, DC.

As­sis­tant Sec­re­tary-Gen­er­al for For­eign and Com­mu­ni­ty Re­la­tions Eliz­a­beth Solomon and CARI­COM Sec­re­tary-Gen­er­al’s Spe­cial Ad­vis­er on Haiti, Am­bas­sador Col­in Grander­son, joined rep­re­sen­ta­tives from the OAS, CARI­COM, the Unit­ed Na­tions, the Gov­ern­ment of Haiti, the Unit­ed States and Cana­da. Dis­cus­sions cov­ered se­cu­ri­ty, gov­er­nance and elec­tions, in­clud­ing the roll­out of the Gang Sup­pres­sion Force ahead of the Au­gust 2026 elec­tions, the Feb­ru­ary 7 ex­pi­ra­tion of the Tran­si­tion­al Pres­i­den­tial Coun­cil’s man­date and tran­si­tion arrange­ments, and prepa­ra­tions for free and fair polls.

The group al­so held side meet­ings with Ba­hami­an and Ja­maican for­eign af­fairs of­fi­cials on Feb­ru­ary 1, and on Feb­ru­ary 2 met UN po­lit­i­cal, peace op­er­a­tions and Haiti mis­sion of­fi­cials, in­clud­ing rep­re­sen­ta­tives linked to the Gang Sup­pres­sion Force.
