Caricom Chair Dr Terrance Drew will make an official visit to Trinidad and Tobago this week to meet with Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and members of her team, against the backdrop of recent tension between Trinidad and Tobago and some other Caricom member states.
In recent weeks, Persad-Bissessar has described Caricom as not being a reliable partner to Trinidad and Tobago and has characterised the regional body as dysfunctional.
In a brief statement Caricom said Dr Drew will be accompanied by Secretary-General Dr Carla Barnett.
It said the visit forms part of the Chair’s focus on face-to-face discussions with regional leaders. Last week, Dr Drew and Dr Barnett met with the new Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines, Dr Godwin Friday, in Kingstown.
