Belmont man shot near home

A 21-year-old Bel­mont man is be­ing treat­ed for gun­shot wounds af­ter an at­tack near his home on Sun­day night.

Po­lice said the man was sit­ting on an emp­ty beer case near a shop along Ser­ra­no Road at 7:20 pm when a heav­i­ly tint­ed dark green Kia SUV ap­proached.

A gun­man dressed in black got out of the ve­hi­cle and shot the man in the left leg be­fore flee­ing. The at­tack­er then re-en­tered the SUV, which sped off.

Passers-by took the in­jured man to hos­pi­tal.

Of­fi­cers of the In­ter Agency Task Force (IATF) and the Port of Spain Gang Unit vis­it­ed the scene.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors found sev­er­al spent 9-mil­lime­tre shell cas­ings.
