Rosemarie Abed has been elected president of the Syrian Lebanese Women’s Association for 2026.
The association held its annual elections on January 21. Abed, who served as vice president for the past two years, was chosen to lead the organisation. Fourteen women were elected to serve on the committee for the year. The committee includes returning and new members.
In her farewell address, outgoing President Genevieve Hadeed reflected on 75 years of work by the association and the role of members in supporting its activities. She also addressed the growth of the organisation over that period.
During 2025, the association reported donations of more than $1 million in cash and kind to projects.
Among the initiatives was its monthly feeding programme, through which 60 hampers were distributed each month to families. The association also distributed 275 backpacks with school supplies and 75 infant tubs with baby items to families.
In addition, 750 reusable menstrual garments were donated under its women’s welfare initiative.
For the Christmas season, 1,800 hampers were packed and distributed to families.
In her first address as president, Abed said she assumes the role with gratitude and determination and intends to work with members and supporters to expand the association’s work and mission.Abed elected president of Syrian Lebanese Women’s Association
