Abed elected president of Syrian Lebanese Women’s Association

Rose­marie Abed has been elect­ed pres­i­dent of the Syr­i­an Lebanese Women’s As­so­ci­a­tion for 2026.

The as­so­ci­a­tion held its an­nu­al elec­tions on Jan­u­ary 21. Abed, who served as vice pres­i­dent for the past two years, was cho­sen to lead the or­gan­i­sa­tion. Four­teen women were elect­ed to serve on the com­mit­tee for the year. The com­mit­tee in­cludes re­turn­ing and new mem­bers.

In her farewell ad­dress, out­go­ing Pres­i­dent Genevieve Hadeed re­flect­ed on 75 years of work by the as­so­ci­a­tion and the role of mem­bers in sup­port­ing its ac­tiv­i­ties. She al­so ad­dressed the growth of the or­gan­i­sa­tion over that pe­ri­od.

Dur­ing 2025, the as­so­ci­a­tion re­port­ed do­na­tions of more than $1 mil­lion in cash and kind to projects.

Among the ini­tia­tives was its month­ly feed­ing pro­gramme, through which 60 ham­pers were dis­trib­uted each month to fam­i­lies. The as­so­ci­a­tion al­so dis­trib­uted 275 back­packs with school sup­plies and 75 in­fant tubs with ba­by items to fam­i­lies.

In ad­di­tion, 750 reusable men­stru­al gar­ments were do­nat­ed un­der its women’s wel­fare ini­tia­tive.

For the Christ­mas sea­son, 1,800 ham­pers were packed and dis­trib­uted to fam­i­lies.

In her first ad­dress as pres­i­dent, Abed said she as­sumes the role with grat­i­tude and de­ter­mi­na­tion and in­tends to work with mem­bers and sup­port­ers to ex­pand the as­so­ci­a­tion’s work and mis­sion.Abed elect­ed pres­i­dent of Syr­i­an Lebanese Women’s As­so­ci­a­tion
