Beckles heads to UN General Assembly

Op­po­si­tion Leader Pen­ne­lope Beck­les has trav­elled to New York to at­tend high-lev­el meet­ings and events be­ing held along­side the 81st Ses­sion of the Unit­ed Na­tions Gen­er­al As­sem­bly.

Beck­les is ex­pect­ed to par­tic­i­pate in dis­cus­sions on women’s rep­re­sen­ta­tion, gen­der-based vi­o­lence, in­no­va­tion and the fu­ture.

On Wednes­day, she will re­ceive the Cham­pi­on for Women in In­no­va­tion Award at the launch of Women in In­no­va­tion.

She is al­so sched­uled to speak on Thurs­day at a ses­sion fo­cused on us­ing smart tech­nol­o­gy to iden­ti­fy high-risk preg­nan­cies and will par­tic­i­pate in a Women Po­lit­i­cal Lead­ers fo­rum on Fri­day.

Dur­ing her vis­it, Beck­les is al­so ex­pect­ed to meet with mem­bers of the Trinidad and To­ba­go di­as­po­ra in New York.
