Cocaine seized by Coast Guard worth $TT 204m

The Coast Guard says lab­o­ra­to­ry analy­sis has con­firmed that 440.20 kilo­grammes of co­caine seized by the Trinidad and To­ba­go Coast Guard in the north­ern Gulf of Paria is worth an es­ti­mat­ed TT$204.5 mil­lion on the street.

The co­caine was found in 394 sealed pack­ages dur­ing a mar­itime op­er­a­tion in the north­ern re­gion of the Gulf of Paria.

The Coast Guard had in­ter­cept­ed a pirogue car­ry­ing four men and the pack­ages on Mon­day.

The ves­sel was es­cort­ed to Coast Guard Head­quar­ters at Staubles Bay, Ch­aguara­mas, where fur­ther search­es were con­duct­ed.

The four men, the pack­ages and the ves­sel were hand­ed over to law en­force­ment au­thor­i­ties for fur­ther pro­cess­ing.

The Coast Guard said the ex­hibits have since been processed in ac­cor­dance with es­tab­lished ev­i­den­tial pro­ce­dures.
