79-year-old assaulted in Gran Couva home invasion

A 79-year-old pen­sion­er was as­sault­ed and robbed dur­ing a home in­va­sion at Pep­per Vil­lage, Gran Cou­va, on Tues­day evening.

Po­lice said Lawrence Ram­per­sad was at home with his 79-year-old bedrid­den wife, Sumatie, around 6pm when he heard foot­steps com­ing from the east­ern side of the house.

As Ram­per­sad turned around, he was struck to the back of his head and fell to the ground. He was struck twice more, to his right ear and right arm.

Ram­per­sad told po­lice he looked up and saw two men dressed in dark cloth­ing and wear­ing masks cov­er­ing their faces.

The men re­port­ed­ly de­mand­ed jew­ellery. Ram­per­sad told them he had none, af­ter which they left through the same point they en­tered.

The sus­pects were both de­scribed as slim-built men, ap­prox­i­mate­ly six feet tall, dressed in dark cloth­ing and wear­ing masks.

Po­lice are con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions.
