PBR to open temporarily on Saturday

The Min­istry of Trans­port and Civ­il Avi­a­tion has an­nounced the tem­po­rary open­ing of the Pri­or­i­ty Bus Route (PBR) to light mo­tor ve­hi­cles on Sat­ur­day to help ease traf­fic dur­ing the 24th Edi­tion of the Laven­tille Eman­ci­pa­tion Steel­band Street Pa­rade.

The min­istry said mo­torists dri­ving light mo­tor ve­hi­cles will be per­mit­ted to use both the east­bound and west­bound lanes of the PBR be­tween Port-of-Spain and Champ Fleurs from 5 p.m. to 11.59 p.m. on Au­gust 8.

The tem­po­rary traf­fic arrange­ment is in­tend­ed to as­sist with traf­fic man­age­ment while the an­nu­al pa­rade takes place along the East­ern Main Road be­tween Leon Street and McAl­lis­ter Street in Suc­cess Vil­lage, Laven­tille.

The min­istry urged mo­torists us­ing the route to com­ply with all law­ful in­struc­tions from po­lice of­fi­cers and au­tho­rised traf­fic con­trol per­son­nel. Dri­vers are al­so be­ing ad­vised to ob­serve all traf­fic signs and tem­po­rary traf­fic man­age­ment mea­sures put in place for the event.

Of­fi­cials fur­ther re­mind­ed mo­torists to ex­er­cise cau­tion while trav­el­ling along the Pri­or­i­ty Bus Route, not­ing that there will be in­creased pedes­tri­an ac­tiv­i­ty in and around the pa­rade route through­out the evening.

The min­istry al­so ap­pealed to dri­vers to obey all traf­fic reg­u­la­tions and re­main alert to en­sure the safe­ty of pedes­tri­ans and oth­er road users.

The tem­po­rary open­ing of the PBR is one of sev­er­al mea­sures be­ing im­ple­ment­ed to fa­cil­i­tate the smooth flow of traf­fic dur­ing the steel­band pa­rade, which forms part of this year’s Eman­ci­pa­tion cel­e­bra­tions.

The Min­istry of Trans­port and Civ­il Avi­a­tion thanked the pub­lic for its co­op­er­a­tion and apol­o­gised for any in­con­ve­nience caused by the tem­po­rary traf­fic arrange­ments.
