Nunez-Tesheira discharged after medical episode on live TV

For­mer fi­nance min­is­ter Karen Nunez-Tesheira has been dis­charged from hos­pi­tal and is re­cov­er­ing at home af­ter suf­fer­ing a med­ical episode while ap­pear­ing live on tele­vi­sion on Thurs­day morn­ing.

In a brief phone in­ter­view with Guardian Me­dia yes­ter­day, Nunez-Tesheira did not dis­close de­tails about what hap­pened, but said she was do­ing well and rest­ing.

“It’s fine with me though. Thank you very much. Now you know I’m do­ing well. I’m an­swer­ing your ques­tions,” she said.

“I am at home rest­ing.”

Nunez-Tesheira al­so thanked mem­bers of the pub­lic who sent mes­sages of sup­port fol­low­ing the in­ci­dent.

“Thank you so much. All the good wish­es I got from peo­ple, I did ap­pre­ci­ate it. Gen­uine­ly, I did ap­pre­ci­ate it,” she said.

Nunez-Tesheira was a guest on Con­ver­sa­tions with Zelisa on Re­al TV when the med­ical emer­gency oc­curred at the sta­tion’s San Juan stu­dios short­ly af­ter 10.20 am on Thurs­day.

Host and Ex­ec­u­tive Pro­duc­er of Con­ver­sa­tions with Zelisa, and CEO of Re­al TV, Zelisa Boodoos­ingh, said Nunez-Tesheira was an­swer­ing a ques­tion about her role as a woman in Par­lia­ment when she fell silent and slumped back in her chair.

Boodoos­ingh said staff im­me­di­ate­ly moved to as­sist and, af­ter re­al­is­ing it would take some time for an am­bu­lance to ar­rive, she ac­com­pa­nied Nunez-Tesheira to the Er­ic Williams Med­ical Sci­ences Com­plex. She said the for­mer min­is­ter was ini­tial­ly un­re­spon­sive but lat­er re­gained con­scious­ness.
