A modified PlayStation gaming console was allegedly being used to conceal a firearm and ammunition, leading to the arrest of two people during intelligence-led anti-crime operations carried out by police in Central and Western Trinidad on Wednesday.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service said officers of the Central Division Gang Unit and the Western Division Task Force conducted separate Operation R.E.S.O.L.U.T.E. Shield exercises that resulted in the seizure of a firearm, ammunition and cannabis.
Between 1 p.m. and 9 p.m., officers acting on intelligence carried out enquiries that led them to a residence at Taska Avenue, Cashew Gardens, Longdenville.
Police conducted a search under Section 12 of the Emergency Powers Regulations, 2026, and discovered what appeared to be an unusually heavy black PlayStation gaming console. Further examination allegedly revealed the console had been modified to conceal a black and chrome Smith & Wesson pistol fitted with a magazine containing nine rounds of .40 calibre ammunition.
A 48-year-old man who lives at the address and his Latin American girlfriend were arrested in connection with the discovery. Both remained in police custody up to the issuance of the release as investigations continued.
The Central Division exercise was coordinated by Assistant Commissioner of Police Remy, Senior Superintendent Bhagwandeen, Assistant Superintendent Hernandez and Acting Inspector Rampersad, and supervised by Acting Corporal Mohammed.
In a separate exercise between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., officers of the Western Division Task Force searched a known drug block and an adjacent unsecured property at Savannah Road No. 1, Diego Martin, commonly known as "The Gaza".
Police said officers found 94 rounds of .40 calibre ammunition hidden inside a half tank and four clear plastic bags containing 104.7 grammes of cannabis.
That operation was sanctioned by Senior Superintendent Williams, spearheaded by Superintendent Mohammed and Assistant Superintendent Burris, coordinated by Inspector Grant and Sergeant Dominique, and supervised by Corporal Robinson, with assistance from officers of the St. James Police Station and the Canine Unit.
