Point Fortin man to face trial over alleged Borough Day stabbing

Ra­heem Stephens has been com­mit­ted to stand tri­al for al­leged­ly stab­bing a man dur­ing Bor­ough Day cel­e­bra­tions in Point Fortin last year.

Fol­low­ing his com­mit­tal at the con­clu­sion of a Suf­fi­cien­cy Hear­ing on Thurs­day, Mas­ter Abra­ham Guer­ra grant­ed Stephens $80,000 bail with con­di­tions.

Stephens had been de­nied bail when he ini­tial­ly ap­peared in court.

The charge al­leges that on May 3, Stephens stabbed Jovon Cu­pid with in­tent to cause him griev­ous bod­i­ly harm.

The charge arose from an in­ci­dent along the Guapo-Cap-de-Ville Main Road, where the two men were al­leged­ly in­volved in an ar­gu­ment.

Stephens, who was rep­re­sent­ed by at­tor­ney Krysan Ram­bert, was or­dered by the court to re­side at Whar­ton Street, New Vil­lage, Point Fortin.

He must re­port to the Point Fortin Po­lice Sta­tion every Mon­day and Wednes­day be­tween 6 am and 6 pm and lodge his pass­port with the Reg­is­trar of the San Fer­nan­do High Court by Au­gust 30.

He was al­so or­dered to have no di­rect or in­di­rect con­tact with the vir­tu­al com­plainant and to stay 500 feet away from him.

Sgt Anand Bis­soon rep­re­sent­ed the pros­e­cu­tion.
