Man arrested after alleged racist rant

A Port of Spain man was ar­rest­ed af­ter al­leged­ly mak­ing racial­ly of­fen­sive and ob­scene re­marks di­rect­ed at Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar and Hin­du deities.

Guardian Me­dia un­der­stands that of­fi­cers at­tached to the Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment’s Spe­cial Op­er­a­tions Unit de­tained the man dur­ing an op­er­a­tion con­duct­ed this af­ter­noon.

The man al­leged­ly made a se­ries of in­flam­ma­to­ry com­ments tar­get­ing the Prime Min­is­ter and Hin­du re­li­gious fig­ures, in­clud­ing Lord Hanu­man and Moth­er Lak­sh­mi, in videos cir­cu­lat­ed on so­cial me­dia.

The op­er­a­tion was co­or­di­nat­ed by As­sis­tant Com­mis­sion­er of Po­lice Richard Smith and in­volved of­fi­cers from the Spe­cial Op­er­a­tions Unit.

Po­lice are yet to dis­close what of­fences the man will be charged with.
