A Port of Spain man was arrested after allegedly making racially offensive and obscene remarks directed at Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and Hindu deities.
Guardian Media understands that officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Department’s Special Operations Unit detained the man during an operation conducted this afternoon.
The man allegedly made a series of inflammatory comments targeting the Prime Minister and Hindu religious figures, including Lord Hanuman and Mother Lakshmi, in videos circulated on social media.
The operation was coordinated by Assistant Commissioner of Police Richard Smith and involved officers from the Special Operations Unit.
Police are yet to disclose what offences the man will be charged with.
