One man was arrested and three firearms, along with quantities of ammunition and cannabis, were seized during a series of anti-crime exercises conducted by police in the North-Eastern and South-Western Divisions this week.
According to police, officers attached to the North-Eastern Division Task Force and the Canine Unit carried out coordinated operations between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Thursday within several communities in the division.
During the exercise, officers searched the homes of several persons of interest, including the residence of a 58-year-old man along Ward Lane, El Socorro. Police said officers discovered a transparent bag containing 138.7 grammes of cannabis during the search.
The suspect was cautioned and arrested in connection with the find.
Police later moved to Bagatelle Extension, San Juan, where officers reportedly observed a man fleeing the area after noticing the police presence. Although the suspect escaped, officers searched the surrounding district and discovered a firearm fitted with a magazine containing 21 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Further searches in the area led officers to a black bag containing a Beretta pistol fitted with a magazine loaded with 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Meanwhile, in a separate exercise in the South Western Division, officers attached to the Santa Flora district conducted an intelligence-led operation around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday along Oilfield Road, Palo Seco.
Police said officers searched a bamboo patch after acting on information received. During the exercise, officers allegedly discovered a black plastic bag containing a silver Beretta pistol fitted with a magazine containing seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, along with 430 grammes of cannabis.
The firearms, ammunition and narcotics were seized and taken to the Santa Flora Police Station as investigations continue.
